Yes, it is legal to play real money Rummy games in India. It is not a crime and has been sanctioned by the Indian Supreme Court. The highest court in India ruled in 1957 that wagering or betting on a game that you control because it requires skill is not regarded as an unlawful form of “gambling.” Anyone can play a cash game of online RummyChallenge without worrying about breaking the law! Because Rummy games do not rely on the “Chance” element, they are skill-based games.
Games of Rummy are not regarded as gambling!
“Wagering upon a desirable outcome without having control over the outcome” is what gambling is all about. But the Indian Supreme Court has ruled that Rummy is a “game of skill” rather than a “game of chance,” drawing a clear line between Rummy and gambling, which is prohibited in the country. Additionally, the Indian Constitution’s Article 19 [1] (g) protects games of skill.
Even after this decision, state laws governing real-money gaming remain in place, and it is still prohibited in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, and Telangana. Players from these states are unable to participate in our Rummy cash games as a result of this restriction. They can, however, play our free practice games to improve their Rummy abilities.
